Cystic Fibrosis

Speleotherapy has been shown to help children suffering from cystic fibrosis. This is a disease which prevents lung development and patients need daily physiotherapy to extract the fluids from their lungs, because of a lack of sodium chloride, which the body needs to absorb the fluids that collect and build up in the lungs. By breathing the dry salt aerosol in a Speleochamber, the patient inhales about 5mg of sodium chloride, which acts as an excellent microbicide and mucokinetic / expectorant, relieving the symptoms of cystic fibrosis.

Breathewell recommends that patients suffering from allergies spend an hour in the Salt Room twice a week. Speleotherapists recommend an initial treatment course of 4 trial sessions in order to check the effect. If it is found to be beneficial, patients sign up for a course of 14 one-hour treatments, ideally twice a week with a 48-hour break between sessions, to see optimum results.
